At Loomis Basin Charter School, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) continues the IB journey by offering a challenging and supportive educational framework for students in grades 6–8. Rooted in inquiry, the MYP encourages students to explore concepts in depth, make real-world connections, and take meaningful action in their communities.
The MYP curriculum is organized around eight subject groups, providing a well-rounded and rigorous educational experience:
Within and across these subjects, students engage in interdisciplinary learning, exploring big ideas through local and global lenses.
A key feature of the MYP is the development of Approaches to Learning Skills (ATLs)—including communication, collaboration, organization, research, and critical thinking. These lifelong skills equip students to become independent learners who can navigate complex challenges and reflect on their growth.
In addition, the MYP emphasizes Service as Action, which encourages students to apply what they learn in meaningful ways that benefit their communities. Through both individual and collaborative experiences, students identify needs, take initiative, and reflect on the impact of their actions—deepening their understanding of their role as caring, responsible global citizens.
Guided by the IB Learner Profile and a commitment to holistic growth, our MYP program inspires students to become engaged thinkers, compassionate leaders, and reflective contributors to the world around them.
