At Loomis Basin Charter School (LBCS), we are proud to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Our school is committed to educating the whole child—intellectually, personally, emotionally, and socially—through two interconnected IB programs: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP).
The PYP nurtures young learners as inquirers both in the classroom and in the world beyond. It is a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based approach that encourages curiosity, creativity, and compassion. Students explore six transdisciplinary themes of global significance that help them understand the world and their place in it:
Teachers design units of inquiry that integrate traditional subjects and promote deep conceptual understanding. Learning is guided by the IB Learner Profile, which aims to develop students who are: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective.
The MYP continues to foster whole-child development while increasing academic rigor and real-world application. Students engage in a balanced and challenging curriculum that includes:
